Using all capacities of our hybrid crane nr 12

A few years ago, Zuidnatie bought crane 12, a hybrid crane that can run on both diesel and electricity. As the infrastructure did not yet allow it, crane 12 was used on diesel for the time being. From now on, we are changing that!

Thanks to a new switchbox on the quay, crane 12 can be connected to the electricity grid of the Zuidnatie’s Breakbulk terminal. This means the crane can operate on energy generated from our own solar panels. As a result, there are no emissions at all! If we need to move the crane, we disconnect the plug from the switch box and the crane operates on diesel again. This ‘switch’ is unique within the Port of Antwerp, as one of the two options is always chosen. At Zuidnatie, this allows us to make the best possible use of the capacities of this hybrid crane while working in an environmentally-friendly way. #sustainablebusiness
